🤝CommonGround: the match-your-friends word game
A word association and matching game.
Everyone gets the same prompt, such as “Name a popular ice-cream flavour”, and types an answer in secret. When everyone has answered, matching answers are grouped together and you score for thinking like the rest of the group.

How to play CommonGround
- Read the promptEvery player sees the same prompt on their phone.
- Answer in secretType what you think other people will say and lock it in.
- RevealOnce everyone has answered the answers are revealed and matching answers are grouped together.
- ScoreEarn points for every match. The most points after the last prompt wins.
Rules and options
- Crowd pleaser: you score 1 point for every other person who matched you.
- Perfect pair: match exactly one other person for 3 points; larger groups score 1 point.
- Capitals, spaces, the word “the” and simple plurals are ignored when matching. The host can also tap two answers to count them as the same.
- An optional timer of 30, 45 or 60 seconds means anyone who runs out of time scores nothing that round.
Tips
- Go for the obvious answer – it is not a game about being clever.
- In Perfect pair mode, try to guess which answer exactly one friend will choose.
- Host: use the merge tool for answers like “Choc chip” and “Chocolate chip”.
Frequently asked questions
How is it different from other word games?
There is no winning answer – only how well you think like the group.
What if two answers are almost the same?
The host can tap two answers to merge them into one group.
Are there prompts for my region?
Yes. Add a region pack and local prompts are mixed in.
How many rounds are there?
The host picks between 3 and 20 prompts.
